Background Of The Bangladesh Jute Institute
The Bangladesh Jute Research Institute is one of the oldest research institutes in Bangladesh. In 1904, research on jute was started in Dhaka under the leadership of Sir R. S. Finlow. Research on jute was started in a formal way in our country after the establishment of the Jute Agricultural Research Laboratory under the supervision of the Indian Central Jute Committee in 1936. In 1951, the Indian Central Jute Committee was replaced by the Pakistan Central Jute Committee, and the Jute Research Institute was established at the present place. After the liberation of Bangladesh, the then-government formed the Bangladesh Jute Research Institute in 1974.
At present, this institute conducts its research in three areas:
- To innovate high-yielding varieties of jute.
- To innovate various jute products
- To manufacture jute textile products
We should emphasize the research on jute-made products. Because it is just environmentally friendly. Our neighboring countries are earning a huge amount of foreign currency by exporting jute and jute-made products. But, the importance of jute is decreasing in our country. Therefore, we should innovate and improve our jute-made products. There is good scope for us to earn a good amount of foreign currency by exporting jute and jute-related products.
